The Return

Sometimes you take a break. You go to school, you move away. But then you come running back to me like a lover who realizes that distance makes the heart grow fonder. Move away, go ahead, but you’ll be back to this park, in your city of warmth and charm and niceties. Of quirky neighborhoods, bike lanes, bridges, and beer- you’ll learn what a neighbor really is when you get to know me as your neighbor.

I will call out your name when you look a the tops of my dark green trees from your bedroom window- my sanctuary and its isolation. I will toast to you. Because when you’re here, there is nowhere else.
